A Trek to Kukke Subramanya (PART TWO)

Initially we planned to go to “Bhattara Mane” (Bhatta’s House) around 13:00 hrs and have lunch there. But finally when we reached it was 16:00 hrs. Bhattaru (His original name is Mahalingeshwara Bhatta) was well prepared with food. The food was simple – Rice, Sambar, Butter milk, and Pickle prepared with motherly love… We literally hogged there. Had one seen us there eating they definitely doubted about our capacity :) and it was time again for a small break (Don’t say that time taken for the break is more than the time taken for climbing) There was a team already @ Bhatta’s house from Bangalore (oops!!! Sorry, Bengalooru (or is it bengaluru?)) and two were them were amateur ornithologists. They took 2 days to take a snap of a small bird n a butterfly… Funny it looks for us, but for them its hobby n they were extremely happy when they took the snaps. So we bid adieu to Bhatta and left for the trekking. It was already 17:00 hrs and the sun was sliding down and another 10 mins we reached a forest office. The forest officer said we can not go further as its already started darkening. Here, I must say one fun incident. While we were resting on the big rock n tasting yummy Pine-apple, a man was walking alone and he stopped and asked us how r we going n where r we going n we told him everything n in turn we asked him whether he is the lone trekker. He said yes and also told that he had peaked it twice. We were amused by his words n jocularly said he must be crazy. Now the forest officer removed his cap n asked us if we can recoginse him. Man, it’s him the same trekker whom we met n made fun… We were stunned but he was so sportive n helping nature guy. He asked us to stay there pitching the tent in front of their office as it is not safe to travel during late evening. So we obliged and inclined our tents… Kuchela had brought Chapatis n Aditya had HoLige’s with him… Yum they were and we started singing “Vivaha bhojanavidu, vichtra bakshyagaLivu”. Then started traditional “yeNNe sEve”, and Re-mixes of the songs. Srinivasa sang some good remixes with his trump card song – “Pakkada Mane hudugi baaramma” (Orignial – Bhagyada Laxmi baaramma). That evening was so chilled and misty that after spending nearly one hour I went to my tiny, compact tent n dozed off. After some time I got up n saw that the guys were still in partying mood with singing, mimicking one other and dancing around the fire. Finally everyone settled in their camp n started snoring… :)

“Ree Harshaa…. Ree Harsha, Chandra yen sakkataag kaaNtiddaane alwaa”. It was Kuchela who was sleeping next to me waking in the mid night just to make sure the huge blowing air has not taken our tent away and we r still intact… :) Since I don’t speak to anyone after the time ticks 00:00, I had to say – “hoo hoo”. It was funny. He was asking “Ree iddeerEnriii. eDDeLi”. I was cursing him and had to wake up from my sleep and tell him that nothing has happened and we both are still together within the tent itself (Alas!!! I had to break my oath.)
